The St Louis Metro Polka Club will be sponsoring a new dance this year
- the Contrast Dance. It's an opportunity to be as
"contrasting" as possible. Here's how the event came into
being. WEW
radio the
oldest radio station west of the Mississippi and the second oldest
radio station in the country hosts several polka shows on weekends, and
one of the disc jockies "Brother Anthony" Kaminski wanted to give back
to the club for being one of his sponsors for several years.
He wondered if our organization would be interested in having
a dance where he and his partner at the radio station "JJ" (John
Jackson) were DJ's.
The board of directors talked it over and decided to take advantage of
this great offer. Having had success in the past with theme
dances - the Polka
Stampede and the Hawaiian
S.H.I.R.T. dance where patrons dress up, it was decided to
have this dance a theme dance as well. Understanding that
most people don't want to go to a big expense to "dress up", we thought
it would be great fun to see how willing people would be to appear in
public in odd clothing - things that don't match. We've
offered some suggestions - mixing
patterns - stripes and plaids, polka
dots and zig zags; mixing
colors - top half black, bottom half white,
all one color, your partner a contrasting color; mixing styles -
fancy
top, casual pants, t-shirt and tie. Add an unusual hat,
shoes, and sox and you'll be set. Let that imagination run
wild.
The dance will be held Saturday November 10th from 2-5PM at Polish
Hall 826 Greenwood St,
Madison IL.
Admission a mere $5.

into the station broadcast center.
Anthony's programs are always full of fun and laugher and the program
is 100% ad lib.
JJ works the control board and cues Anthony.
Anthony often invites guests to help with the show. Claire
